This goal has the following fine print specified by fryhole:
Fluenz is a packaged language program. It's one of the more expensive ones out there, but I like it. Plus since I already own it, cost isn't really an issue.
Anyway, most of the languages, including German, consist of five levels of 30 lessons each, so 150 in total. I've heard of people doing the course in five months and others taking two years or more, but I think one year is a good timeline for me. I'll need to do 2-3 lessons a week, but it'll also leave time between lessons for other language activities like reading stories or watching movies. Fluency doesn't come from a program, it comes from using the language in real-world situations until it becomes second nature.
There's not much to say in terms of fine print. I'll count the lessons when I've finished all the activities. If I'm not done by the deadline, that's a paddlin'.
For Beeminding purposes, I'm committing to finishing the program this year. However, in my experience it's good to hit it hard in the beginning to get to a communicative level so that you can spend more time using the language and less time studying it. Ideally I'd do a lesson a day and have this done inside of six months. We'll see how well that works out.
Not committing to anything yet, but I should probably keep the buffer capped at 7 days. Long breaks are bad for retention.
